It has been three years since WhatsApp has had the ability to allow people to purchase products and services from businesses and other platforms from within the app. Now, the company is expanding this feature in a way that allows people to pay businesses on WhatsApp using credit cards, debit cards, as well as net banking.
WhatsApp introducing an in-app payment process is an excellent step forward and should make the platform a lot more intuitive for businesses of every scale
The best thing about this process is that when you are paying for a product or service within the app, the entire process will take place within WhatsApp, and you will not be redirected to another page or service. This change will not only make the process of payments streamlined, but it will also ensure that security is enhanced. The feature is going live at the moment and will be available in India. The company has worked with Razorpay and PayU to make this a possibility, and we are hoping that this feature goes live in other regions, as well.
In addition to that, Meta has also introduced Meta Verified Businesses on WhatsApp, and this means that it will be possible “for businesses to receive verification from Meta, which helps you know you're chatting with the right business.” The blog post continues and mentions, “To become Meta Verified, businesses demonstrate their authenticity to Meta and in return receive a verified badge, enhanced account support, and impersonation protection.” As expected, the feature will go through its testing phase with small businesses and, after that, will be introduced to everyone.
There is no denying that Meta has been hard at work when it comes to WhatsApp, and introducing new features is only going to make the platform a lot more useful. I am just hoping that this feature comes to international markets as well because I can think of many ways this could prove useful for everyone.
