iFixit teardown reveals the 5x optical zoom lens on the iPhone 15 Pro Max along with the A17 Pro chip and Qualcomm's X70 modem
Lucky customers have started receiving their iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max while deliveries have slipped to November in some regions. Today, iFixit has shared its teardown video of the iPhone 15 Pro Max that showcases the internals of the device. On the first look, we can see that the device features a revamped frame that aids in better repairability of the back glass. Since the back glass can now be removed easily, it is potentially the reason why Apple lowered the repair cost to $200.
Other than this, the iPhone 15 Pro Max teardown also reveals the new camera system capable of 5x optical zoom. You can see the upgraded telephoto lens with a tetraprism system. Apart from these upgrades, the ultra-wide angle lens appears to look the same as the iPhone 14 Pro Max. This also means that any additional upgrades part of the new iPhone 15 Pro Max are handled by the new A17 Bionic chip with a computational approach.
As for the internals, iFixit also reveals the A17 Bionic soldered on the logic board. The logic board on the iPhone 15 Pro Max is similar to the one on the iPhone 15 Pro. Additionally, Apple made various improvements when it comes to the device's connectivity. The device features WiFi 6E which can be used with compatible routers. As for the modem, the iPhone 15 Pro Max teardown also highlights the X70 modem by Qualcomm that can deliver faster 5G speeds compared to the iPhone 14 Pro models.
iFixit gave the iPhone 15 Pro Max a repairability score of 4 out of 10 which is lower than expected since the company did make repairability easier. However, due to Apple's part pairing requirement, the score has been lowered not only on the latest but older models as well. This is all there is to it, folks. We will keep you guys updated on the latest as soon as something new is discovered.
