YouTuber EverythingApplePro conducted a drop test experiment for the new iPhone 15 Pro models. To be exact, Philip tested the iPhone 15 Pro as well as the iPhone 15 Pro Max. In a series of drops, Philip placed a solid slab of concrete slab on the ground surrounded by titanium bars. The test started from a waist-height drop from the side. It can be seen that the titanium wears off pretty easily compared to the stainless steel finish. Both models received their fair share of scratches on the frame. With the same height, the second test was conducted with iPhone 15 Pro models taking a hit on the back. The test failed again as the back glass broke instantly. Since the back glass breaks easily, it is probably the reason why the company dropped its repair price from $500 to $200.
In the face-down drop test, both iPhone 15 Pro models survived with everything working perfectly fine. Again, the titanium frame was scratching and wearing off quite easily. Philip repeated the tests again from head height, thus, damaging the back glass further. However, the front glass resisted each fall along with the camera lenses on the back. Upon additional tests, the display was unscathed with the camera working.
Lastly, the YouTuber climbed up the ladder, reaching a height of approximately 15 feet. The iPhone 15 Pro dropped to its side and ignited sparks which also confirms that it is indeed titanium. The iPhone 15 Pro max survived the 15-feet drop test as it resisted bend and continued to work flawlessly as far as the internals are concerned. Titanium continued to do its job to resist damage. Additionally, the display remained safe as well with touch capabilities working just fine. The camera hardware continued to work.
While we have covered various downsides of the titanium finish, there is no denying that it is a stronger metal compared to the last generation's stainless steel finish. The iPhone 15 Pro models will scratch and scuff but the purpose of titanium is to keep the internals safe from any potential damage. This is probably one of the reasons why the company ditched stainless steel and opted for titanium.
