Assuming Apple would not proceed with this step, the authorities would have indefinitely suspended sales of the iPhone 12 and most probably paid closer attention to the iPhone 15 lineup for its radiation levels.

There is no evidence that smartphone radio waves can have an adverse impact on human health during prolonged use, but the tests carried out in France are different than those conducted in other countries. Despite Apple contesting the French regulator’s findings, stating that the iPhone 12 was certified by several international bodies to comply with global standards, the technology giant said on September 15 that it would issue a software update that would accommodate the testing methods used by France.
Reuters reports that because the tests produced different results by the French regulators, other European countries, including Belgium, have asked to receive the software update for the iPhone 12 too. It is unclear if Apple will comply with this request. The report also mentions that according to WHO, there are no side effects to using any smartphone, be it an iPhone 12 or any other model, for longer periods, but certain countries like France have stricter requirements than others.
Apple has submitted the newest update to ANFR, or the national frequency agency, so that tests can be conducted again. Once the regulator finds that the iPhone 12’s radiation levels are acceptable, sales can resume in the region again.
