Reddit has decided to shift things around a bit as the company has just launched a new Contributor program. Rumors of this program have been going all over the internet for some time now, but it is now officially live, and honestly, if you like shitposting, this is for you because you can actually get paid.

The Reddit Contributor Program is finally live, and it will actually make your internet points or karma more valuable than before. If you are a Redditor with high activity, you can apply for the program and see if you are eligible. Other users will reward posts, comments, and contributions using gold and karma. If you manage to earn enough karma and gold, you can convert them into real-world money.
So basically, Reddit is now letting shitposters get away with some actual money. If you are wondering how the Contributor Program is going to work, here is a breakdown.
- Contributor:
- Earns between 100-4,999 karma in a 12-month period.
- The standard payout rate is $0.9 per 1 gold.
- Top Contributor:
- Earns over 5,000 karma in a 12-month period.
- Enhanced payout rate of $1 per 1 gold.
The way this works is that Reddit will multiply your payout rate by the number of eligible gold in the last 12 months. Reading more reveals that your karma calculation under the new program will begin f from the day you receive your first gold. Payout calculation will take place at the end of each month, and you will get the payout within 30 days, which seems reasonable.
Now, of course, there is an eligibility criteria that you must meet. Users will have to be over 18 years of age and must reside in the U.S. You will also need to provide verification information through Stripe or Persona. Reddit has also separated itself from OnlyFans in a way that Contributor Program only allows you to earn money via Safe for Work or SFW contributions. Then there is the qualification process, which requires you to have earned at least 100 karma and ten gold over the past 12 months.
Honestly, I do like where Reddit is headed with the Contributor Program, and it will allow people to engage within the community even more. The limitation to just SFW content might be off-putting for some, but considering how the platform is a home for all sorts of users, it is probably for the better. Currently, the program is only available in the U.S., but I do hope it starts rolling out in other countries and happens to be successful.
