In a new video, YouTuber iPhonedo shared his thoughts on why his iPhone 15 Pro Max and iPhone 14 Pro Max were betting hot. He emphasized that there have been various reports on why the issue persists but no concrete details are available. However, he blames the Instagram app for the overheating issue and depleting battery of his new phone, He performed an experiment where the temperature of his iPhone 15 Pro Max was rising at an alarming rate.
When the devices were left idle, the temperature remained the same on the iPhone 15 Pro Max but as soon as he opened the Threads or Instagram app, the device started to overheat at a consistent level. He used a thermal leak detector to see the jump in temperature. The YouTuber states that Instagram is causing the overheating issue on the iPhone 15 Pro Max as well as his older iPhone 14 Pro Max after installing iOS 17. He recommends users not upgrade to iOS 17 if they use Instagram apps daily.
In my personal experience, the issue persists after upgrading to iOS 17 on my iPhone 14 Pro Max. I have noticed the device getting hot while using the app which has resulted in damaging the battery health. Before updating to iOS 17, my iPhone 14 Pro Max rested on 98 percent battery health after a full year of use and in the past week, the battery health dropped down to 94 percent.
iOS 17 is still in its initial stages of release and could feature under-the-hood bugs and issues that are not evident on the surface. However, the Instagram app might also be the reason for the iPhone 15 Pro's overheating issue. This is not the first time that we have heard details of overheating iPhones due to a software error. iPhonedo devises a fix where you can just turn on Low Power Mode on your iPhone to fix the issue, While it is not a permanent fix, it remains to be seen if Instagram will update its apps.
