There is no way to deny that Samsung's position in the smartphone industry is something that can rarely be challenged. The Korean brand has been putting out some excellent smartphones for years, and the best thing is that you have a lot of phones to choose from, so even if you are not looking for flagships that start at $800, there are still many options to pick from.
Samsung selling the most Android smartphones in Q2 2023 shouldn't come as a surprise
A new report tells us that Samsung has managed to ship 6.6 million smartphones in the U.S. during the second quarter of 2023. This has allowed the company to capture 24% of the market share, and although this is an impressive achievement on its own, it is still 3% less than last year when the company shipped 9 million units. The explanation for this decline is mainly because of high inflation, the job market being in decline, and an overall economic downturn.
On the other hand, the good news is that Samsung managed to sell 23% more premium smartphones when you compare the data with last year, so we are still looking at good things. Apple, the biggest competitor, shipped 14.8 million smartphones in Q2 2023, giving it a whopping 54% market share in the U.S.. However, even Apple experienced a shipment drop of 3.7 million compared to last year's numbers.
Samsung and Apple weren't the only ones to experience the drop in shipments in the U.S., as all other brands except Google went through that. Google, on the other hand, saw a massive 59% jump in shipments when compared to last year. However, the numbers are still not as impressive because the company only managed to ship 1.2 million Pixel units and ended with a 4% market share.
Honestly, Samsung taking the top spot for Android phones does not really surprise me. Given that the company is known for producing some of the finest smartphones that we get the chance to look at, and the Android market, despite being saturated, is singlehandedly dominated by the South Korean firm, and for good reason. Regardless of the price point, the company has something to offer for everyone to keep delivering better phones as we progress.
