As good as the iPhone 15 Pro models are considering the number of new features it brings, the overheating issue is constantly making headlines. According to the Wall Street Journal, "people familiar with the iPhone's design" stated that the iPhone 15 Pro's overheating problems could be a result of a faulty design. In the United States, Apple does not sell an iPhone 15 model with a physical SIM card option while the global version of the device still features either a physical SIM plus eSIM or a dual physical SIM card slot. This means that the devices being sold in the United States feature a different logic board to fill the space caused by the absence of the SIM card tray.
Apple had to create space within the iPhone 15 Pro to fit a physical SIM card tray outside of the United States that could pose to be a thermal threat in an already cramped interior. Earlier this week, industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo stated that the new titanium also had something to do with the overheating issue of the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max as the new finish features less mass to soak in the heat for efficient dissipation. One device experienced an overheating issue upon setting the device up.
Thomas Galvin, a 23-year-old from Cleveland, says his iPhone 15 Pro Max has been "super hot" and that he is considering returning it. Apple customer support told him the heat was a result of setting up the new phone, but even a few days later, it is still "way worse than the iPhone 13 Pro Max," he said.
Apple has refused to share any remarks on the subject but Bloomberg reports that Apple technicians have been hearing a plethora of complaints regarding the iPhone 15 Pro's overheating issues. Apple's technicians are asking users to get help from Apple's aged support document that does not specifically mention the new iPhone 15 Pro models.
At this point, Apple can only fix an issue via software updates which could resolve the overheating problem to some extent. However, if it is a hardware issue, it would be quite cumbersome for the company to fix the issue. We will share more details as soon as Apple shares its thoughts on the matter. The company could be working on an internal fix but it could potentially come with its own set of caveats, such as lowering the performance capabilities of the A17 Bionic chip.
