The newest iPhones’ overheating issues have been highlighted in various reports, with owners also backing up those claims by providing their anecdotes online. The titanium chassis and the lack of an elaborate cooling solution are primary culprits these for high temperatures, but surprisingly, various tests show that the iPhone 15 Pro Max does not overheat when plugged in, regardless of how long it is connected to the charger.
The maximum recorded temperature of the iPhone 15 Pro Max when charging is 38.9 degrees Celcius (102.02 degrees Fahrenheit), making it fairly cool to the touch
Three charging tests conducted by ChargerLAB found that the iPhone 15 Pro Max remains quite thermally efficient. On YouTube, the results show that the 6.7-inch flagship was plugging in for up to 60 minutes, with temperatures recorded after 10, 30, and 60 minutes of being connected to the charger. The highest reading was during the 30-minute internal, with temperatures reaching 38.9 degrees Celcius. The analysis revealed that the iPhone 15 Pro Max was fast charging at this stage, which likely led to this figure.
Surprisingly, after 60 minutes of being plugged in, the iPhone 15 Pro Max recorded the lowest temperature in the entire test, not exceeding 29.5 degrees Celcius. In a previous charging test, ChargerLAB noted that the maximum supported wattage on this model does not go past the 25.5W mark, even with Apple’s official 140W power brick. These charging speeds remain unchanged compared to the iPhone 14 Pro Max from last year, and it is likely that these limitations were intentional from Apple’s side.
Assuming the iPhone 15 Pro Max supported higher wattage modes, it would have raised temperatures exponentially, and all that heat would likely have degraded the battery faster, prompting users to get replacements earlier. While it is responsible of Apple to limit the maximum charge levels to maintain excellent temperatures, it does mean you have to keep your device plugged in for longer to reach 100 percent. Fortunately, on the newer models, there is a way to increase battery health while taking that charge level to just 80 percent.
Apple has included three new battery health features with the iPhone 15 lineup; Optimized Battery Charging, 80% limit, and None. These settings not only help you retain the battery health for a longer period but also reduce the time for the iPhone 15 Pro Max to become fully charged. If you wish to check out the entire test, you can view the video above and be at peace, knowing that your latest device will never overheat when plugged in.
