The iPhone 15 Pro Max, with its new titanium chassis, replaces the stainless steel on the iPhone 14 Pro Max, giving you a lighter flagship in return, but at the cost of durability. A previous drop test revealed that Apple’s latest and greatest has an exterior that is by far the toughest, and in the same test performed by someone else, the Galaxy S23 Ultra manages to hold out against its newest rival.

In addition to being prone to scratches, the iPhone 15 Pro Max does not hold up well against drops either, with PhoneBuff demonstrating this in a series of drop tests. Apple’s and Samsung’s flagship offerings are released from the same height, with a slab of concrete being the point of impact. The YouTube channel also shows how the durability of the iPhone 15 Pro Max increases tenfold with the CASETiFY Bounce case protecting all four corners, the front and back. Sure, it might not be the cheapest accessory out there to attach to your shiny new purchase, but it does the job exceptionally well.
In the first drop test, in which the iPhone 15 Pro Max and Galaxy S23 Ultra make contact with the concrete slab on their backs first, Samsung’s top-tier smartphone is able to absorb the impact, winning this round. Surprisingly, in the second drop test, which involves dropping both handsets at an angle in which they make contact with the concrete slab from the corner, the iPhone 15 Pro Max ends up taking the victory, despite earlier tests showing that the same corners are actually a weak point for the device.
When both phones are dropped face first, they suffer irreparable damage, with prominent cracks shown on both displays, although it should be pointed out that they work completely fine despite taking multiple beatings. At the end of four drop test rounds, the Galaxy S23 Ultra took the win by obtaining a score of 39, while the iPhone 15 Pro Max achieved a score of 37. It’s not a bad result by any means, and it will be interesting to see how the Galaxy S24 Ultra fares when it launches early next year with its rumored titanium chassis.
