It appears that in a race to perfect AI chatbots, Google has decided that it is going to start working on humanizing Google Bard even more. After all, we all have preferences, things that we want others to remember, and even situations that we prefer that others are aware of.
Google wants Bard to learn more about you so it can give you personalized suggestions upon being asked
At the time of writing, when you are chatting with Google Bard, every conversation starts from scratch. This means that if you are asking Bard the same questions every day, you are most likely going to get the same answers. But now it seems like Google is actually working on a new feature for Bard that will allow the chatbot to remember important details about you along with your preferences.
The feature is called "Memory," and as the name suggests, the feature will let Google Bard remember specific details that you share with the chatbot in order for it to improve future results. Google has even shared some examples of what you can ask the chatbot to remember.
- I try to avoid eating meat
- I have 2 kids
- Please give shorter responses
As you can see in the images above, it appears that Google Bard will soon be able to remember things about you and even remind you of the things that you mentioned to the chatbot. This is something that can be convenient if you rely on the chatbot and often look towards it for suggestions, and while it might be a bit creepy for some people, I think this feature is great for those who are trying to streamline parts of their lives.
You will also be able to add new preferences to Google Bard. You will be able to delete the preferences, as well. Sadly, the feature is not fully functional, but I am really looking forward to seeing how Google develops it. For those who are concerned about privacy, the feature can also be turned off, so you really won't have to worry about important information getting out.
Honestly, I think the Memory feature coming to Google Bard is an impressive achievement by Google, and other chatbots can also use this feature. The one thing I am not sure about is just how people are going to react to this feature becoming a staple in Bard and all the other chatbots that are now available in the market.
