Apple saw fit to release iOS 17 to the general public in the second half of last month for all compatible iPhone models. The update brings a plethora of front-facing additions but it did not quite leave a mark as reflected in the early adoption rate of the platform. iOS 17 brings vast improvements to existing features and also introduced extended customizations for the Lock Screen. However, the iOS 17 adoption rate is still lower than anticipated.

According to statistics shared by Mixpanel, only 23 percent of compatible iPhone models are running a version of iOS 17 out of which only 6.0.3 percent of users have installed the latest iOS 17.0.3. The lower-than-expected adoption rate of iOS 17 is potentially due to the issues it brings to the table which has been causing havoc these days. It was confirmed by Apple that iOS 17 houses a bug that is causing the new iPhone 15 Pro models to overheat.
Apple did release an update as promised and for the most part, the overheating issue on the iPhone has been taken care of. Initially, the overheating issue was presumed to be the result of Apple's new A17 Pro chip. Furthermore, the new titanium finish on the 'Pro' models has also been blamed for causing overheating. However, Apple denied all of these notions and stated that the issue would be resolved with a software fix. If you happen to have an iPhone 15 Pro, you should install iOS 17.0.3 right now. These issues are potentially the reason why the iOS 17 adoption rate is so low.
Uses are shy of installing iOS 17 on their iPhone models as it would have negative externalities attached to it. It could pose a threat to the iPhone's performance as well as the battery life. With that said, users will most likely wait for the platform to become stable and then update to iOS 17. Since iOS 17 is in its early stages, some of the most prominent features that the company announced on stage are still missing. However, the company is testing the forthcoming builds with developers which will be released in the coming weeks.
Currently, almost 45 percent of compatible iPhone models are running iOS 16.6.1 and iOS 16.7. The last few updates are always the most stable builds as the company spent almost a year perfecting its software with bug fixes and performance enhancements.
