The news was shared by prominent analyst Mark Gurman from Bloomberg in his latest Power On newsletter, highlighting Apple's journey for the Vision Pro. The analyst also shared some internal details related to company executives and how the headset became a reality. Apple's Vision team is leading the second-generation product with changes in the size and weight of the product. Based on the report, the Apple Vision Pro could be slightly smaller than the forthcoming version.
With the size reduced, there are bound to be weight reductions as well. The company also uses a different material for the build quality to keep the weight of the headset at bay. The first-gen Vision Pro is experienced to be a little heavier on the head which could alter the the entire experience of the headset. Additionally, the company is also working on a lower-end model as well as a high-end model.
Introducing a low-end model could allow the company to streamline its sales. Furthermore, the more the product reaches the hands of the end user, the more the company will delve into developing appropriate use cases for the device. It is believed that due to the hefty price tag of the Vision Pro, shipments will remain low in the first year after launch. With a budget variant, the company could create a dedicated segment for the headset. However, Vision Pro 2 might not see daylight any time soon as the company has just started working on it.
Other than the size and weight of the headset, the Vision Pro 2 is also reported to be working on custom prescription lenses which will be shipped with the headset. This will allow the company to tackle the prescription issue where it would have to stock thousands of lenses. The company is also working to make the headset comparatively thinner than the original model. Internally, the company will potentially incorporate a faster M-series and R-series chip as well for a fluid user experience.
As mentioned earlier, Apple will not launch the Vision Pro 2 any time soon. According to information from additional sources, the second-generation headset will not be available before the 2025 to 2027 time frame. In the same time period, the company could introduce a cheaper version of the headset to make it more appealing to the end user.
