The news was shared on the Korean social media site Naver, suggesting that Apple is working to bring OLED display technology to the iPad Air and iPad mini lineup. This is not the first time that we have heard details about the OLED display for Apple's mid-range tablets. The latest information is in line with a previous report from Omdia that also coined that Apple's iPad Air and iPad mini series will receive OELD panels in the coming years.
The forthcoming iPad mini 7 will continue to feature an LCD panel as Apple is currently in talks with Samsung and LG to gain components. The device will enter mass production by the end of 2025 and the devices could launch in 2026. Apple is heavily invested in transitioning its products from LCD displays to OLED and microLED.
It was initially reported that the company will launch the iPad Pro models with OLED displays this year. However, the company's plans were scrapped, pushing the launch to early next year alongside M3 Macs. Apple's OLED iPad Pro models will also give us an idea of how the market responds to OLED panels ahead of incorporating them into its iPad Air and iPad mini lineup.
Other than OLED displays, the company is also developing its custom microLED displays for future Apple products. It was recently reported that the company will debut its microLED technology with the launch of the Apple Watch Ultra in 2025. However, the technology is still years away and the OLED displays are potentially filling the gap until the company is ready to use microLED technology on its devices.
It was recently reported that the iPad mini 7 will continue to feature jelly scrolling issues as the company is not planning to incorporate 120Hz ProMotion technology on the iPad mini 7. However, the company could use some sort of tweaks in the display to minimize the jelly scrolling issue.
