A 24-inch iMac refresh is long overdue, especially when Apple is preparing to launch the M3 either in the last months of 2023 or in early 2024. According to the latest rumor, the company is said to introduce an update to its ‘All in One’ Mac family, giving users the option to either configure it with the M2 or M2 Pro chipsets.
Other improvements rumored to arrive for the 24-inch iMac refresh include Thunderbolt 4 and Bluetooth 5.3 support
Though previous reports have consistently stated that Apple will bring an M3 upgrade to its iMac lineup, Mac Otakara believes otherwise, stating that the next update will introduce the M2 and M2 Pro options. The report mentions that some custom iMac configurations are facing up to a one-month delay in the U.S. on Apple’s online store, but MacRumors clarifies the confusion, stating that this has been the case for a while, so it is not a guarantee that a refresh launches in the coming weeks.
Assuming Apple does launch a new iMac, the technology giant will likely keep the exterior unchanged from the previous version that was officially announced back in May 2021. Sticking with the same chassis helps the company preserve millions in design, research, and other costs, not to mention the mounting expenses when that final design is ready to enter mass production. Fortunately, this time, the Japanese blog states that the new 24-inch iMac will also arrive with Thunderbolt 4 ports, along with support for Bluetooth 5.3.
The updated models may also come with Wi-Fi 6E, so aside from getting more chipset options at your fingertips, the wireless connectivity options are said to receive a sizable bump in improvements. With the new M2 and M2 Pro chipsets, we believe that users will also have the ability to configure their iMacs with more unified RAM. With the M1 models, you were limited to just 16GB, and with the M2, Apple took the maximum supported RAM count to 24GB.
