The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy’s GPU is the one to watch out for when it comes to performance gains this year. Earlier, it was rumored that the Adreno 750 featured in Qualcomm’s upcoming flagship SoC was 40 percent faster than the Adreno 740 in the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, and now, a new Vulkan test comparison shows that the latest graphics processor stretches that lead to more than twice the aforementioned value.
Exynos 2400 also mounts a massive lead against the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, but the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 continues to be the fastest out of all three
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy was supposedly tested in Geekbench 6’s Vulkan benchmark, with an earlier result showing that this SoC is 10 percent faster than the Exynos 2400’s Xclipse 940 GPU. While both chipsets perform the same in OpenCL, one area that critics always pick out is the difference between the latest silicon and its predecessor.
According to the same tests performed on the Galaxy S23 Ultra, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is significantly slower, with the chart below showing that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy is more than 80 percent faster in this category. This is perhaps the biggest performance lead for a single generation, something that Apple’s A17 Pro could not emulate when compared to the A16 Bionic.
What is even more interesting to note is that the Vulkan test was performed on the Galaxy S24 Plus instead of the Galaxy S24 Ultra, meaning that even with a potentially smaller cooling solution, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 outperformed its predecessor by a significant margin. We expect to see a bigger difference when the same SoC is found in the Galaxy S24 Ultra, as its larger vapor chamber should contribute to higher scores.
Remember that this 80+ percent difference will not be seen in every test, such as ray tracing or even Genshin Impact, so we need to have realistic expectations from the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.
