Google announced its latest Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro earlier this month with a boatload of improvements in design and internals. The flagship devices now feature the company's in-house Tensor G3 chip that comes with various AI capabilities. One of the major additions this year is the new display. The standard Pixel 8 can reach brightness levels as high as 2,000 nits but the 'Pro' model can reach up to 2,400 nits of peak brightness. While the display is pretty well received by the tech community, some users are seeing a pink text issue on the Pixel 8 Pro's Always-On display.
Some users report pink text issue on the Google Pixel 8 Pro on certain portions of the display when the Always-On display is enabled
Some users are reporting that the text shown on the Google Pixel 8 Pro appears to be pink or yellow. The issue has persisted on the Pixel 8 Pro since its release a little over a week ago. Additionally, the pink text issue is only evident on the Always-On screen. What this means is that the issue is not visible when the device is unlocked. Furthermore, we have only heard complaints for the Pixel 8 Pro as the standard model stays clear of the issue.
Based on the complaints, the pink screen issue is only present on specific portions of the display, especially on either side and the top. The text appears to change color from white to pink and in some cases yellow. Users have also noticed that the issue comes into action in low-light situations. Currently, there is no word from Google if is a hardware or a software-related issue.
We have heard complaints from users who have updated to a stable build of Android 14 as well as those running Google's Android 14 QPR1 Beta. The company has not shared an official statement on the issue and it remains to be seen if it is a hardware issue. Google can fix the software issue via a future software update but if it is a hardware issue, the company would have to either offer free repairs for all affected devices.
We will share an update on the story as soon as further details are available. Currently, Apple is also running into an issue where the Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 are flickering due to an unknown issue. However, similar to the Pixel 8 Pro, the issue is present when the Always-On display is enabled. It appears to be seen how both companies respond to the increasing number of complaints.
