Today, OnePlus has seen fit to debut its all-new foldable smartphone that has a lot going for it. The company launched the OnePlus Open a few months after Samsung's Galaxy Fold 5 was announced and it directly competes with the best foldable experience on Android. There is a boatload of aspects that OnePlus has done right with its Open smartphone when it comes to design, camera, as well as software experience. However, the price tag is something that should have been reconsidered given it is manufactured by a company that once called itself the flagship killer.

Moving on to what makes the OnePlus Open special is its inner 7.82-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 2K and a 120Hz refresh rate. The 20:9 aspect ratio is pretty similar to the Galaxy Fold 5. The company states that the outer screen is 20 percent more durable than the Gorilla Glass Victus but we will prefer waiting for the tests to arrive before comparing further.
One of the most important aspects of a foldable device is the hinge and the OnePlus Open is making use of a modified hinge from the Oppo Find N2. The hinge has been reduced to 69 parts which makes it more durable and resistant to malfunctions. We have also observed that the new hinge allows the display to show relatively less crease compared to most foldable smartphones in the market, including the Galaxy Fold 5 and the Pixel Fold. However, only time will tell if the hinge has contributed to the crease.
As for the internals, the OnePlus Open is powered by the latest SNapgdragon 8 Gen 2 chip coupled with 16GB of RAnd and 512GB of storage capacity. The 4,805mAh battery can be charged using the company's SUPERVOOC charging which fully charges the device in 42 minutes, according to OnePlus. The device runs OxygenOS 13.2 based on Android 13 but it will be updated shortly.
As for the camera hardware, the OnePlus Ooen features a 48MP main sensor from Sony conjoined with a 64MP telephoto lens and a 48MP ultrawide lens. The camera on the inner screen is 20MP while the one on the outer screen is 32MP. The company has invested heavily in the Pixel Stacked technology which will improve photos in low-light situations and offer clearer photos.
