Apple is expected to launch new iPad Pro models with an OLED display next year, potentially after Spring. The devices were originally rumored to launch this year with M3 chips but recent reports suggest that Apple has pushed the launch of the chip to next year. One of the major additions coming with the forthcoming iPad Pro models is the new OLED display on both display sizes of the tablet. A new report claims that Apple will launch the OLED iPad Pro next year and then trickle the display technology down to the iPad Air and iPad mini lineup.
After the redesigned iPad Pro launch next year, Apple will expand OLED display technology to iPad Air and iPad mini
The iPad Pro could feature a major redesign since the current models look and feel pretty similar to the 2018 model. The company is expected to trim down the bezels alongside the addition of an OLED display. The panel will be superior to the mini-LED display on the current 12.9-inch version of the iPad Pro as well as an LCD panel on the 11-inch version. Following the release of the OLED iPad Pro, ETNews claims that the display technology will be part of the iPad Air and iPad mini in "subsequent releases."
It was recently reported that Apple will not release any iPad this year as the company is preparing to launch its entry-level and budget iPad models next year. To be precise, Apple will launch the iPad mini 7, iPad Air 6, and iPad 11 in the Spring of next year with upgraded internals. The design of the devices is expected to remain the same, at least for another year or two. The iPad mini 6 suffers from an issue called jelly scrolling which is a by-product of the LCD technology. Therefore, the iPad mini lineup could benefit greatly from an OLED display alongside the iPad Air.
Currently, the 12.9-inch version of the iPad Pro features a mini-LED display while the 11-inch model comes with an inferior LCD panel, both using Apple's 120Hz ProMotion technology. Apple's segregation of the two models reflects the market that the iPad targets but it would be better to have uniformity in the lineup. Since the OLED display is slated to arrive on both models, it will offer various benefits over LCD and mini-LED technology. The color reproduction would be improved with the low power-hungry nature of the display and enhanced saturation levels.
We previously anticipated that it would take Apple years before introducing OLED display technology on the iPad Air and iPad mini. The company could offer new displays on the iPad Air and mini as soon as 2025 or 2026. Take note that these are mere speculations at this stage since the final word rests with Apple. We will update you guys as soon as further details are available.
