Apple's iPhone 15 launch is right around the corner, and we are hearing a plethora of details surrounding the entire lineup. The standard iPhone 15 models are finally jumping on the Dynamic Island bandwagon, while the iPhone 15 Pro models will feature a grade 5 titanium finish. According to the latest report, Apple has given Samsung the go-ahead to mass-produce the OLED displays for the entire iPhone 15 lineup.
Samsung begins mass production of OLED displays for the iPhone 15 lineup while LG and BOE struggle to clear issues
Samsung is not the only OLED display supplier for Apple, as LG and BOE are currently waiting for approval for mass production. Samsung has shown incredible progress in securing orders for OLED panels, while the other two suppliers have run into production issues. Due to these issues, LG has received conditional approval for the 6.1-inch iPhone 15 Pro, but approval for the bigger 6.7-inch model will take a few months (The Elec).
Apart from Samsung and LG, BOE is also supplying OLED displays for the standard iPhone 15 models. BOE has also run into production issues related to the Dynamic Island cutout, while LG is facing challenges related to slimmer bezels on the 'Pro' iPhone models. BOE has sourced its initial OLED panel orders to Samsung, which means that the overall shipments for the panel will be higher than expected for this year. For the standard iPhone 15 models, BOE is still waiting for Apple to give conditional approval before it begins mass production of OLED displays.
Despite various production issues in the display, camera sensor, and lens department, Apple will go on and release all four models of the iPhone 15 next month. The production will likely catch up to the demand later this year, but before that, suppliers need to operate at full capacity after resolving these technical issues. If Apple's iPhone 15 lineup exceeds expected demand, we could potentially see shortages in the coming months. Currently, Apple is aiming for a 50 to 60 percent supply of the iPhone 15 Pro models.
Avoiding issues and disruptions in the production process is vital for suppliers in order to secure future orders from Apple. By the look of it, Samsung is taking the lead when it comes to getting approval for mass-producing OLED displays for the iPhone 15 lineup. The iPhone 15 Pro models are slated to feature slimmer bezels conjoined with a titanium finish. The iPhone 15 models will bridge the visual gap with the 'Pro' models as the devices are expected to come with Dynamic Island cutouts. As mentioned earlier, Apple will launch the iPhone 15 series in the first half of September.
