Google is bringing a translation feature to Gmail for both iOS and Android devices. The feature supports over 100 languages spread across various regions of the world. This means that you no longer have to face the language barrier when receiving an email in a different language because you can translate the said email into the native language, making it easier for you to reply appropriately.

Now, it is worth noting that Gmail will not be able to detect the language that the user speaks. This means that when you receive an email in a different language, it will translate that email into whatever language you have set in the account settings. So, if you receive an email in French and the language you have set is English, the email will be translated into English. You can even turn the feature off altogether if you don't want to use it for one reason or another.
The Gmail app on your Android or iPhone should automatically detect that you have received an email in a different language and display a banner that will let you translate the email. However, if the app fails to do so or you have turned the feature off for some reason, you can still do the manual translation via the three-dot menu that you can find in the app.
The feature is currently rolling out to all Gmail users on Android, and Google has talked about how it can take up to 15 days for the feature to be available on your device. iOS users will have to wait until August 21, later this month, for the update to start rolling out. Last but not least, the new feature is available for both Workspace users and individual users.
I"m not a polyglot, and I receive emails sometimes in different languages, and the process of manually translating them can be tedious, at best. I am really glad that Gmail has finally released this update, as I will now be able to read emails without having to rely on tools outside the app, and this is just convenient.
