Apple is gearing up to announce the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro next month with a plethora of major changes. The company is working to boost sales of the standard models by offering Dynamic Island technology on the front and USB-C with upgraded internals. However, we are now hearing that the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro models will come with 35W fast charging speeds.
The iPhone 15 lineup will come with faster 35W charging speeds, but it is not clear if it will be exclusive to the 'Pro' models
We have previously covered that the iPhone 15 models will house a brand-new USB-C port capable of Thunderbolt capabilities. While the new standard is more than capable of supporting faster charging speeds, we have not heard any details regarding the feature. Now, industry sources have told 9to5mac that the upcoming iPhone 15 models will pack faster charging speeds, potentially thanks to the new USB-C port.
The publication notes that some iPhone 15 models will support faster wired charging speeds. What this means is that the feature could be exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro models while the standard models will stick to the current speeds. In contrast to the current models, the iPhone 14 Pro will cap out at 27W fast charging speed while the iPhone 14 will charge at a slightly lower 20W.
The iPhone has always featured slower charging speeds compared to the competition from Android. For instance, companies like Samsung have reached charging speeds up to 45W. Chinese smartphone manufacturers offer further improvements in the technology, offering wired charging speeds over 7W. In contrast, the iPhone 14 Pro Max takes about two hours to fully charge. With faster charging speeds, you can expect the iPhone 15 Pro models to charge in comparatively less time.
As for the number, the source suggests that the iPhone lineup could feature charging speeds up to 35W. If the new standard will be available for the standard models, it will deliver a significant improvement over 20W. This is not the first time that we are hearing details on the iPhone 15's fast charging capabilities. Industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has already detailed that the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro models will feature fast charging capabilities thanks to the new USB-C port.
As mentioned earlier, we are not familiar if the new standard will be available on all four models of the iPhone 15. Since Apple is widening the gap between the standard and the 'Pro' models, faster charging speeds could be exclusively available for the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. Apple will potentially announce the iPhone 15 lineup alongside Apple Watch Series 9 on September 12 at its special event.
