The iPhone 15 series is going official in just a week, and we are expecting four models to be released by Apple. As always, there are going to be the base iPhone 15, the Plus variant, and two Pro variants. But since we are closing in on the launch, people have been asking about the new iPhone 15 models that will have support for Apple's ProMotion technology or, in other words, the 120Hz refresh rate that the phones support.
Apple not equipping the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus with ProMotion display is a missed opportunity
Last year, Apple only brought ProMotion technology on the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, whereas the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus were stuck with the standard 60Hz refresh rate. This year, a lot of people are hoping that Apple changes its mind and brings ProMotion across the entire board, but the reports that we have heard so far suggest that the iPhone 15 story is not going to be different.
Based on several industry insiders, the iPhone 15 and the Plus variant are still going to be stuck with a 60Hz refresh rate. Whereas the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max are the ones that will receive the ProMotion technology, or in other words, will have an LTPO display offering 120Hz refresh rate.
While I am not going to upgrade to the iPhone any time soon now, I have to admit that I am disappointed in Apple's decision to keep ProMotion exclusive to the Pro models. The reason behind that is rather simple -- cheaper phones than the base iPhone 15 are already equipped with a 120Hz refresh rate. I am talking about sub-$400 phones in the market, and sure, they are Android devices, but still, they provide an experience, at least in terms of the screen that Apple cannot. At this point, I'd say Apple has no reason to stick to outdated 60Hz refresh rate displays, and if not 120Hz, the company should have at least opted for 90Hz, as it still makes a noticeable difference.
The iPhone 15 series is due on 12th September, later this month. This means that you can expect a lot of details about the new iPhones coming forward. So far, it does look like Apple is going to make strides, and I am really looking forward to the Pro variants, thanks to all the advanced camera tech that Apple will be featuring on the new devices.
