Apple cannot keep up with demand for the iPhone 15 Pro Max, which launched at $1,199 for the base model, offering buyers 256GB of internal storage. Unfortunately, the flagship has been back-ordered for many weeks now, leaving customers with one of two choices. They can either muster the patience and wait for Apple’s latest and greatest model to ship to their doorstep or purchase one from an eBay seller, but at an inflated price. During our search, the cheapest unlocked variant we could find was for $1,589.66.

Browsing around eBay, the most affordable unlocked iPhone 15 Pro Max is available for slightly less than $1,600, and then right after, the Natural Titanium version is available for $1,695. Sadly, when you factor in shipping costs, you could be paying upwards of $1,800 for this version, and it is no surprise to see that sellers are continuing their business practices by offering a ‘high demand’ item at scalped prices. We saw this with NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 3000 series, and the same thing is being witnessed with Apple’s iPhone 15 Pro Max.
There are a multitude of reasons why the iPhone 15 Pro Max is in high demand, with the most obvious factor being that 5x optical zoom camera, which is the first for any iPhone. The 6.1-inch iPhone 15 Pro ships with the same 3x optical zoom as last year’s iPhone 14 Pro, with both flagships available in various titanium finishes. The iPhone 15 Pro Max is also available with 8GB RAM, and you get the same memory count irrespective of which storage model you purchase. The RAM upgrade will be helpful in various situations, including gaming.
TrendForce also said that considering the upgrades of the iPhone 15 Pro Max, the flagship is reasonably priced, but in the hands of eBay sellers, that does not appear to be the case any longer. It is unnecessary for consumers to immediately have the very best in iPhone technology, especially when your current smartphone appears to be working just fine. It is also repulsive that sellers are taking financial advantage of consumers like this, so, at the very least, Apple needs to work with suppliers to ensure that this supply and demand disparity ends as quickly as possible.
