Google has just announced the new Google Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro handsets that feature improved camera hardware, and a powerful processor, and also come with new changes in terms of design. This year, the Pixel Watch 2 launches with a thinner design compared to the original model. The wearable is built from recycled aluminum which means that it weighs quite less than stainless steel. The crown is more rounded with a defined shape which will make scrolling a lot easier. In terms of its size, the Pixel Watch 2 retains the same 41mm size and uses the same band connecting mechanism as the original model. It now comes with an IP68 water and dust resistance rating.
One of the major differences from last year in terms of design can be found underneath the Pixel Watch 2 as Google has embedded a plethora of new sensors for better health and activity tracking. The Pixel Watch 2 now comes with a multi-path heart rate sensor for precise readings while you are performing exercises with high motion counts. The sensors and photodiodes will measure your pulses from various angles to draw an accurate reading.
The Pixel Watch 2 also comes with a continuous electrodermal activity sensor that can track stress levels through microscopic sweat beads. The sensor conjoined with heart rate and skin temperature can detect stress levels throughout the day. The health app will let the user know via prompts and notifications to calm down or perform breathing exercises. The new health features are part of Google's updated Fitbit Relax app. The Fitbit exercise experience has also been improved with an updated interface.
In terms of performance, the new Pixel Watch 2 is now powered by the Snapdragon W5 chip which will feature enhanced performance compared to the original model. The new processor could also contribute to better battery life which, according to Google, now rests at 24 hours with Always-On Display turned on. The company has also replaced the wireless charger with contact pins, similar to the Fitbit wearables. The new charger will allow for faster charging speeds that can fuel the watch to full in just 75 minutes.
The Pixel Watch 2 will run Google's Wear OS 4 which comes with the Gmail app for you to check your inbox and folders. It also comes with a new Calendar app. Other than this, the company did make some tweaks in the design language which is more than a welcome addition.
