We were expecting the company to upgrade its MacBook Air series and the 'Pro' models of the machines next year. According to Mark Gurman from Bloomberg in his latest iteration of the Power On newsletter, Apple is working on four Macs with upgraded internals for the 2024 launch. Apple has a bunch of Macs that it will upgrade next year but first, the company will announce the new M3 chip.
Apple is reported to upgrade the Air and Pro models next year with different versions of the M3 chip. Typically, Apple announces the lower-end chip first followed by a high-end version of the chip for the 'Pro' models. Next year, the company could announce the 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air with the all-new M3 chip based on TSNC" 's 3nm architecture. The company could also announce the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models with M3 Pro and M3 Max chips.
Gurman suggests that the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models with M3 Pro and M3 Max chips have reached design validation testing or DVT. This means that mass production of the devices will begin sooner rather than later and puts the launch schedule in the second quarter of 2024. Similarly, Apple has also reached design validation testing for the 13-inch and 15-inch versions of the MacBook Air, Both models of the MacBook with different versions of M3 SoC could launch at the same time next year.
Apple's new M3 chips will feature upgraded computational and graphical performance while consuming less power. This will allow the forthcoming MacBooks to feature better battery life.
