Redfall is Getting its Offline Mode and Single-Player Pausing Afterall in One Final Update

Xbox fans, and some of their employees, were blindsided earlier this month when Microsoft announced a number of their studios were being shuttered, including the “gut stab” closure of Arkane Austin, developer of the acclaimed Prey and the more troubled Redfall. Following the announcement Arkane Austin was shutting up shop, it was reported that the team had been working on additional updates for Redfall, including one that would deliver a long-promised offline mode. Unfortunately, at the time, it seemed unlikely any of these promised updates would come to fruition. Well, thankfully, it seems there’s a glint of light amongst the […]

This morning, Finnish game developer Remedy Entertainment announced a couple of key changes to its core management team. First and foremost, Chief Operations Officer Christopher Schmitz has resigned and will leave the company on May 31. Secondly, Mikael Kasurinen has been promoted to Creative Director, sharing responsibilities in this role with Sami Järvi, more commonly known as Sam Lake. Kasurinen also joins the Remedy core management team. CEO Tero Virtala said in a statement: Christopher Schmitz has had various responsibilities during the past five years, with which he has helped in building the foundations of our multi-project model, and developing […]

Remedy Says Alan Wake 2 Has Recouped Most of the Investment; Studio Plans More Regular Sequels for AW, Control

Today, Remedy released its latest quarterly report for the period between October and December 2023. Despite the successful launch of Alan Wake 2, which was the fastest-selling game ever made by the studio even launching in a highly competitive release window, Q4 2023 marked a decrease in both revenue and profitability compared to 2022 due to significantly increased investments in the other game projects and to the impairment charge cost (€ -7.2 million) related to the reboot of the free-to-play Project Vanguard, from now on known as Kestrel. Still, Remedy revealed that Alan Wake 2 has now recouped most of […]

Control IP Acquired by Remedy for €17 Million

Today, Remedy announced the acquisition of the full rights to the Control franchise from publisher 505 Games for €17 million, which is basically what the publisher had paid for the development of Control 2 and codename Condor to date. 505 Games will remain the publisher of the original Control through a transition period that will end on December 31, 2024. Remedy decided to proceed with this operation to ensure better deals for future installments in the franchise. CEO Tero Virtala said: Having complete ownership over the franchise gives us the freedom to decide the best path forward. We will consider […]

Alan Wake 2 Is Remedy’s Fastest-Selling Title at 1.3 Million Units

Alan Wake 2 received widespread critical acclaim when it was released in late November. Our own Francesco De Meo gave it a 9/10 and said: Despite not aiming to revolutionize the survival horror genre, Alan Wake II is an amazing game that no one who enjoys a good trippy horror story should pass on. Remedy Entertainment really outdid themselves, releasing their best game to date and one of the most immersive gaming experiences of the past few years. Remedy's latest game also earned various awards, including Wccftech's for Best Horror Game of 2023 as voted by our staff and community. […]

Rockstar and Remedy Enter Trademark Dispute over Remedy’s New Logo

As spotted by Twitter user @usemyhandle, Rockstar and Remedy have apparently entered into a trademark dispute over Remedy's new logo. The Finnish game development studio switched its logo for the first time in twenty years in April 2023. At the time, Remedy explained: Creating a new logo and a refreshed visual identity for Remedy was an emotional journey, like anything to do with art. For longtime Remedy followers, you surely know how vital artistic direction is for us. Not just in our games but from the standpoint of how our studio identity looks. Not to mention our hoodies! As a […]

Alan Wake 2 Is Getting New Game Plus and a New Ending Next Monday

Alan Wake 2 was one of the big winners at The Game Awards 2023, earning three awards (Best Art Direction, Best Game Direction, and Best Narrative), the most after Larian's Baldur's Gate 3. The Finnish studio is, however, not at all resting on its laurels. They already confirmed a major new update scheduled to go live on all platforms on Monday, December 11, at 10 AM Pacific Time. This new patch adds New Game Plus, allowing players to restart Alan Wake 2 and retain all weapons, Charms, and character upgrades earned during their first playthrough. Remedy noted that the unlocked […]

Alan Wake 2 Dev Talks Integration of Mesh Shaders & DLSS 3.5, Explains Work Graphs Importance in Future Games

Hot on the heels of the tech-focused chat with Cyberpunk 2077 developer CD Projekt RED we published earlier this week, today we've got another brief technical talk with Alan Wake 2 developer Remedy Entertainment. The second triple-A game to implement path tracing after CP2077, Alan Wake 2 stunned once again with the latest evolution of the Northlight engine, delivering what has been described by some as the most visually impressive game made to date, and that's also largely true for the non-path traced version (which runs pretty well even on mid-range PCs). After the praiseworthy launch, Remedy took some time […]

Remedy’s “Vanguard” Co-op Game is Being Rebooted, Will No Longer be Free-to-Play

Remedy Entertainment has a lot of upcoming projects on its plate, with one of the most mysterious of the bunch being “Vanguard,” a Tencent-funded project originally envisioned as a free-to-play co-op title. Well, following the success of Alan Wake 2, it seems like Remedy is rethinking some of their upcoming slate. While Vanguard hasn’t been canceled, it has been rebooted – it will now be a paid premium title and will be referred to by the new codename “Kestrel.” Apparently, this re-envisioned version of the project will “will lean more into Remedy’s core strengths,” which, to me at least, means […]
